TOPEKA (KSNT) - A local business owner gave hundreds of winter clothing items to members of the Topeka community on Monday.
AJ Hopper with Hop 2 It Concrete and Remodeling held its second annual charity sock drive for the homeless on Monday. Hop 2 It distributed 600 pairs of socks, 300 scarves, pairs of gloves, as well as warm food, hot chocolate and toys for Christmas.
"I know a lot of people that struggled, I've struggled myself," Hopper said. "You know I've been with friends and family, I've seen homeless, I've been homeless before myself. And I just want to give back. Because if you reach one or two or three people, you know, you've done your job here... You've come out and made somebody's life easier."
Earlier this year, Hopper donated his services alongside Capital Ready Mix to pour a new concrete ramp at the Heartland BMX Park. The ramp will be used as a starting hill for BMX riders. The project was part of the final steps to rebuild the entire BMX track.
