MANILA, Philippines – PBA commissioner Willie Marcial on Monday, December 23, said the league would abide by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) following the revocation of John Amores’ professional license.
GAB barred Amores from playing in any local professional league after finding him “guilty of conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player” as the NorthPort guard and his brother were charged with attempted homicide for their involvement in a shooting incident in Laguna in September.
“We will comply because they’re a government [agency] and we’re under the supervision of GAB,” said Marcial in a mix of Filipino and English.
In October, the PBA suspended Amores without pay for all his games in the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup for violations under the uniform players’ contract.
Additionally, the league ordered Amores to undergo counseling to “address his anger and violent tendencies.”
It is not the first time GAB revoked the license of a PBA player as they dealt Calvin Abueva the same punishment after he was indefinitely suspended by the league in 2019 for a pair of on-court incidents.
Abueva managed to have his license reinstated by GAB over a year later and resumed his PBA career. – Rappler.com
