While Caleb Williams was busy saying that he found value in all snaps — even ones down by three scores Sunday — Jayden Daniels was stamping his ticket for Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Commanders quarterback threw five touchdowns to upset an Eagles team that saw both their quarterbacks get hurt.
Here’s how the five first-round quarterbacks did in their starts Sunday:
No. 1 overall pick: Bears QB Caleb Williams
Williams’ 334 passing yards — most of them with the Bears trailing by 10 or more points — were more than the 325 he gained in his previous two games combined.
No. 2 overall pick: Commanders QB Jayden Daniels
Daniels threw a nine-yard touchdown to Jamison Crowder with 6 seconds to play to seal the victory. The Commanders had trailed 14-0 halfway through the first quarter.
No. 3 overall pick: Patriots QB Drake Maye
Maye went 22-for-36 for 261 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and a 90.2 passer rating in a three-point loss to the Bills. He was the Patriots’ second-leading rusher, gaining 30 yards on five carries.
No. 8 overall pick: Patriots QB Drake Maye
With Penix making his first NFL start against the pitiful Giants, the Falcons trailed 7-0 and then scored 34 consecutive points. The Washington alum went 18-for-27 for 202 yards and a 73.4 passer rating and ran four times for three yards.
No. 12 overall pick: Broncos QB Bo Nix
Nix went 29-for-40 for 263 yards, two touchdowns and a whopping 106.6 passer rating in a Thursday night seven-point loss to the Chargers. Nix had a passer rating of under 66 in his previous two games.
