We’ve been involved in a handful of fixtures on Christmas Eve, however, the festive football doesn’t usually get into full swing until after Santa has been and gone!
Let’s take a quick look back at some of our favourites…
We’ve played 17 competitive fixtures on Christmas Eve, the last of which took place in 2022 as we emphatically beat Livingston 4-0 under Lee Johnson.
Both clubs gave their support to Shelter Scotland’s #NoHomeKit campaign by wearing their change strips – Livingston wore all-white whilst we wore our all-black, third kit.
After an even opening quarter of an hour, we took complete control of the game following a straight red card for Jason Holt.
Kevin Nisbet and Chris Cadden both scored during a quick-fire spell where we grabbed two goals in as many minutes to put ourselves firmly on course to collect all three points.
Two-headed goals from Kyle Magennis either side of the half-time interval added icing to the cake.
That was one of only three matches played on Christmas Eve since the turn of the century. Other memorable matches include an 8-4 victory over Third Lanark in 1960 – which included five goals from prolific striker, Joe Baker.
Overall on Christmas Eve, we’ve won seven, drawn four and lost six.
