President-elect Donald Trump's key border adviser, former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director Tom Homan, unloaded on Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) on Fox News over remarks she made about public safety, noted Sean Hannity's website on Monday.
Hochul was responding to a brutal incident this month in which a woman on a New York City Subway train died after being lit on fire, allegedly by an unauthorized immigrant from Guatemala who entered the country during the previous Trump administration.
“In March, I took action to make our subways safer for the millions of people who take the trains each day. Since deploying the @NationalGuardNY to support @NYPDnews and @MTA safety efforts and adding cameras to all subway cars, crime is going down, and ridership is going up,” wrote Hochul. In a follow-up post, she added, “A suspect is now in custody for the horrific incident on the F train. Our brand-new security cameras helped law enforcement find the suspect and arrest him. Grateful to @NYPDnews and @mtapd for their aggressive response.”
Overall, crime has fallen on the New York City subway over the past few years, and even at its post-pandemic peak in 2022 was not as severe as it was in the infamous crime wave of the 1980s, although it remains slightly elevated compared to pre-pandemic crime rates.

Regardless, Homan was beside himself with rage at the idea of Hochul taking a victory lap over subway crime immediately after the gruesome killing.
“As far as Governor Hochul, shame on her," said Homan. "She supports sanctuary status in that state. She welcomed thousands of illegal aliens to her state. She sent them to Buffalo and Syracuse. Murders occurred by illegal aliens in Buffalo and Syracuse. She had the green light law. ICE and CBP can’t even work with local law enforcement. Local law enforcement can’t share DMV data with these people. Governor Hochul, shame on you, there is nothing can you say that’s going to make this right in New York.”
Homan has generated controversy with recent threats that mayors who resist the Trump administration's immigration policies will be arrested, and for suggesting that whole families can be deported together even if the children are U.S. citizens.
