DeVonta Smith is a Heisman trophy winner, so with the game on the line, you just expect him to make the big plays.
On Sunday, he came up short. With the Philadelphia Eagles leading the Washington Commanders 30-28 late in the fourth quarter, Smith dropped a pass on third-and-5 that would have allowed the Eagles to run out the rest of the clock. And it couldn’t have been an easier catch for Smith to make.

Philadelphia had to settle for a field goal, which gave them a 33-28 lead but left more than enough time for Washington to go on a game-winning drive — which is exactly what they did. The Commanders drove 57 yards on the ensuing drive to win the game on a touchdown from Jayden Daniels to Jamison Crowder.
The drop also prevented Philadelphia from clinching the NFC East title, something that will have to wait at least another week.
