Solo Leveling is coming back soon!
The South Korean fantasy web novel written by Chugong was first serialized in KakaoPage in 2016, and a Korean webtoon adaptation arrived in 2018. Afterward, a Japanese anime TV adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures aired from January to March 2024. A Korean drama adaptation is also in development!
Here’s a plot summary: “They say whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but that’s not the case for the world’s weakest hunter Sung Jinwoo. After being brutally slaughtered by monsters in a high-ranking dungeon, Jinwoo came back with the System, a program only he could see, that’s leveling him up in every way. Now, he’s inspired to discover the secrets behind his powers and the dungeon that spawned them.”

Solo Leveling is getting a second season, called Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, and it premieres on January 4, 2025 on Crunchyroll.

The main trailer was also just released, giving fans a first look at new footage from the upcoming second season. The trailer also revealed the ending theme song, “UN-APEX” performed by TK, best known for Tokyo Ghoul’s “Unravel.”
The opening theme song is “ReawakeR,” performed by LiSA featuring Felix from Stray Kids.
Here’s the Season 2 synopsis: “It’s been over ten years since gates that lead to another dimension have begun appearing across the world. The battles between the magic beasts inhabiting the dungeons through the gates and the human hunters who have awakened the abilities to fight them show no signs of ending. Ordinarily, a hunter’s abilities do not change upon awakening, with their rank never increasing. However, the low-ranked Sung Jinwoo, known as ‘The Weakest Hunter of All Mankind,’ gained the ability to level up through battle during a raid on a double dungeon. Having completed a job-change quest that earned him the job “Shadow Monarch” and command over an army of shadows, Jinwoo heads into battle seeking the ingredients for the Elixir of Life to save his sick mother.”
The anime TV series revealed key art for its four main characters: Shun Mizushino / Sung Jinwoo, Shizuku Kosaka / Cha Hae-in, Shin Mogami / Choi Jong-in and Taiga Shirakawa / Baek Yoonho.
The Season 1 recap film, Solo Leveling -ReAwakening-, which will include the first two episodes of Season 2, was also recently released to theaters.
Here’s a plot summary: “Over a decade has passed since a pathway called a “gate” which connects this world and another dimension suddenly appeared, and people with superhuman powers called “hunters” have been awakened. Hunters use their superhuman powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates to make a living, and Sung Jinwoo, a hunter of the lowest rank, is considered the Weakest Hunter of All Mankind. One day, he encounters a double dungeon, a high-level dungeon hidden inside a low-level one. In front of a severely wounded Jinwoo, a mysterious quest window pops up. On the verge of death, Jinwoo decides to take on the quest, which makes him the only person who can level up.”
