Freshman Marco Caruso scored four times across two games to lead the Tam High boys soccer team to a 2-0 record at the University Invitational. Tam defeated Sacred Heart Cathedral 3-0 on Friday and took down Newark Memorial on Saturday as Caruso netted a brace in both games.
Nate Wanger scored the other goal against Sacred Heart Cathedral. West Freau and Matt Murphy added goals against Newark Memorial.
Lauren Willard assisted both goals as Tam (3-0-3) settled for a 2-2 draw against Bullard of Fresno at the University Invitational at Beach Chalet in San Francisco on Saturday.
Willard’s first assist went to Addie Covey and her second set up a goal for Hana Leach.
Former Marin Catholic and Branson School standout Niki Prongos announced via social media that he will play for Stanford next season.
Prongos, who played and started at multiple spots on the offensive line for UCLA as a redshirt sophomore this past season, entered the transfer porta earlier this month. Despite joining the Bruins as a walk-on, Prongos emerged as an NFL prospect this past season.
Prongos was limited to just three games at Marin Catholic in 2021 after transferring from Branson.
Marin Catholic saw a late lead slip away in a 40-39 loss to Urban in the championship game of the Casa Grande tournament on Saturday night.
Kelly Storms hit a 3-pointer inside the final minute to give MC (4-6) a 39-33 lead but Urban forced a couple of turnovers and closed the game in a 7-0 run.
Quincy Dean put together a huge stat line as San Marin mauled Vallejo 51-9 on Saturday. Dean scored 29 points, had eight rebounds, and swiped seven steals for the Mustangs (8-2). San Marin won its second game in two days after racing out to a huge halftime lead in a 46-26 road win at Rodriguez on Friday night. Abby Bartholo had 12 points to pace the Mustangs, who led 30-3 at the break. Dean scored 10 points. Brianna Nottingham and Grace O’Hara scored six points each.
Carly Amborn hit big shots down the stretch and finished with 20 points to lead San Domenico to a 39-35 victory against Analy at the Maria Carrillo tournament on Saturday. The Panthers (3-7) were again without point guard Tosia Konczak. Amahji Cook added eight points for San Domenico and Amara Bailey scored six.
Alexander Berkowitz took first place at 165 pounds to lead Redwood at the Bill Martel Invitational at Northgate High on Saturday. Dylan Morton and Jake Heravi managed second-place finishes at 126 and 175 pounds, respectively.
Abby Cooper had 16 points and seven rebounds as Dominican University held off a late comeback from Menlo College in a 63-54 win on Saturday.
Menlo pulled within four points in the fourth quarter but Alex Salise and Alaiyah San Juan combined to go 5 for 6 at the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the win.
San Juan scored 12 and Alyssa Alvarado added 10 for the Penguins (8-8, 2-3 PacWest). Taylor Linzie scored eight points and had a game-high 14 rebounds.
