The Yankees failed to re-sign Juan Soto, but they’re trying to recreate him in the aggregate.
New York traded for Cody Bellinger and agreed to a deal with Paul Goldschmidt. The Bronx Bombers also signed Max Fried to a historic deal and acquired closer Devin Williams. They might not be done after that.
According to MLB.com on Friday, the Yankees tried to trade for Nolan Arenado, but the St. Louis Cardinals rejected the deal opting not to carry Marcus Stroman’s contract. It’s unknown if Arenado would have rejected his no-trade clause for New York, but that trade was offered before Goldschmidt joined the club.
Arenado and Goldschmidt are close friends, so the third baseman might push to join his former teammate. The Yankees likely are out on Alex Bregman, and Arenado would be the only move they could make if they want to upgrade at third base.
The Boston Red Sox are linked to both Bregman and Arenado, who reportedly would waive his no-trade clause to join Alex Cora’s side. Reports indicate that Bregman and Arenado are waiting on the other before they decide where they want to go.
It’s safe to say the waiting game might continue as the infield market continues to heat up.
