NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The NYPD's Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey resigned late Friday night, sources tell PIX11 News.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch announced John Chell as the interim Chief of Department and Philip Rivera as interim Chief of Patrol, both effective Friday night.
“Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch accepted the resignation of Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey Friday night, effective immediately. The NYPD takes all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously, and will thoroughly investigate this matter,” said a spokesperson for the police department.
Maddrey reportedly stepped down from his position after allegations that he requested sexual favors in exchange for overtime from a subordinate, according to an exclusive from the New York Post.
Interim Chief Chell previously served as Chief of Patrol and has led the crackdown on illegal ghost cars, mopeds, and smoke shops. He has served the department for 30-years and was previously the Commanding Officer of the 61st, 75th, and 79th precincts.
Interim Chief Rivera most recently served as Chief of Transportation, responsible for ensuring the safety of the roads, bridges, and highways across New York City. He has served the department for 29-years and was previously a Commanding Officer in the Bronx and Manhattan.
