TTP claims killing 35 Pakistani soldiers in South Waziristan attack

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced in a statement that it killed 35 Pakistani security personnel in an attack in South Waziristan last night. Pakistani authorities confirmed the attack but reported 16 soldiers killed and 9 others injured.

The TTP claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they targeted a military post in the Makeen area of South Waziristan, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistan Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack, reporting a higher death toll than official figures.

In a message broadcast on their WhatsApp channel, the group stated, “At least 35 security personnel were killed and 15 injured in the attack.” They did not mention if any of their fighters were killed.

The group also alleged that they seized a significant amount of military equipment from Pakistani forces during the attack.

This assault follows the TTP’s acknowledgment of the death of Maulana Taha, a senior leader of the group, in a recent military operation by Pakistani forces.

Pakistani media reported that Maulana Taha was killed on Wednesday during an operation in the Tank district of Dera Ismail Khan.

TTP spokesperson Mohammad Khorasani confirmed the death, describing Maulana Taha as a prominent scholar from Swat and an active member of the group’s leadership council and fatwa-issuing body.

Pakistani officials have repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of providing support or a safe haven for TTP fighters to launch attacks against Pakistani forces. However, the Afghan Taliban has denied these allegations, stating that Afghanistan’s territory will not be used against neighboring or regional countries.

The escalating conflict between the TTP and Pakistani security forces highlights the growing instability in the country. Such incidents exacerbate tensions and further complicate the already delicate relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

To address this security crisis, regional cooperation and international mediation are essential. Both countries must work together to prevent militant activities, while fostering dialogue to achieve sustainable peace and stability in the country.
