Manchester United Under-18s kicked off their FA Youth Cup campaign against Coventry City in midweek.
Adam Lawrence’s side registered a dominant 5-0 victory with many youngsters putting on an impressive show.
Gabriele Biancheri and Chido Obi-Martin were the standout players, with the former netting a hat-trick and the latter bagging a brace.
Biancheri put United ahead early with a simple tap-in after a brilliant pass from James Scanlon.
The Welshman soon doubled his side’s lead after rounding up the goalkeeper and finishing into an empty net.
The 18-year-old then turned provider for the third goal. He played a through pass to Obi-Martin, who kept his composure to score.
Obi-Martin then won a free-kick at the edge of the box. He fired his shot under the wall into the bottom left corner to ensure Coventry could not make a comeback.
Biancheri had the opportunity to score his third goal from the penalty spot but his shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
He eventually completed his hat-trick after Godwill Kukonki found him with perfection to make it 5-0.
The Red Devils struggled to score goals under Erik ten Hag.
Amorim’s arrival has helped the forwards score more frequently, but United still lack a cutting edge.
Biancheri and Obi-Martin have made huge strides in the development teams and could turn into world-class forwards for United in the future.
