COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An indoor go-karting company recently opened its first central Ohio location at Mill Run.
K1 Speed, located at 3700 Fishinger Blvd., began welcoming customers on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson with the company. NBC4 previously reported the racing operator showed interest in the Mill Run location in September 2023 and that the company had bought the property in June.
The go-kart company has one other location in the state in North Canton. K1 Speed’s karts for teens and adults are capable of reaching 45 mph. The business also offers junior karts for children, which race up to 20 mph.
“We’re excited to bring a second location to Ohio,” said Susan Danglard, co-owner and director of marketing. “Our Canton location has been a big success, producing many strong kart racers. So, we can’t wait to discover more talent from this great state.”
The multilevel racing track featured at Mill Run is 1,487 feet long. One race typically lasts about seven to 10 minutes, and races end once any driver has completed 12 laps.
K1 Speed Columbus features an arcade, café and a private event room. The company also offers opportunities for customers to participate in racing leagues and championship events.
One race costs $26.95, two races cost $50.95, three races cost $62.95 and a "speed pass," which includes two races, a T-shirt and an annual license, costs $64.95. An annual license, priced at $7.95, is required to race.
All drivers must wear closed-toe shoes and loose-flowing garments such as dresses are not permitted. There is no age requirement to race, but instead a minimum height of four feet. All racers need to sign a waiver -- anyone under 18 years old must have a legal guardian sign and be present.
K1 Speed Columbus is open Mondays through Thursdays from noon to 10 p.m., Fridays from noon to midnight, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to midnight, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The karting concept is a family-owned business, founded by David and Susan Danglard in 2003, with the goal of bringing “European-style electric kart racing” to North America, according to a news release. The company has since grown to over 100 racing centers across 30 states and 10 countries.
