NEW YORK (PIX11) – Following weeks of mysterious drone sightings the Federal Aviation Association has restricted flying the aircraft throughout New York.
The move comes after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called on federal authorities to address the growing number of drone sightings in the state, one of which briefly shut down Stewart International Airport.
“While we have not detected any public safety or national security threats, we will continue aggressively monitoring the situation as we call on Congress to pass legislation…,” the governor said in a statement.
The FAA has issued temporary flight restrictions for drones from Friday through Jan. 19. Pilots who violate TFRs can face sanctions ranging from warnings or fines to certificate suspensions or revocations.
