Tottenham Hotspur have been installed as the favourites to sign one experienced goalkeeper in January, with the Lilywhites potentially set to submit an offer when the transfer window opens.
Guglielmo Vicario is out with a long-term injury and is not expected to be back in action until February, according to reports.
While Fraser Forster has deputised for the Italian, Spurs lack a decent backup to the Englishman, with neither Brandon Austin nor Alfie Whiteman having played a single competitive game for the club.
Some sources have claimed over recent weeks that Tottenham might thus look to sign a young English goalkeeper from the EFL next month.
UOL have now stated that Spurs are also eyeing a move for Botafogo’s John Victor Maciel Furtado, who is simply known as John.
The 28-year-old, who has previously spent some time with Valladolid in La Liga, is said to be a wanted man, with Tottenham, Galatasaray and Bahia now after him.
It is explained that the Lilywhites have only recently entered the race for the experienced shot-stopper, and have moved to the front of the queue ahead of other sides.
UOL explain that although John’s current contract lasts until 2027, he faces an ‘uncertain future’, with offers expected to arrive for him over the coming weeks.
The report reveals that the Botafogo number one might prove too expensive for Bahia, while he is not particularly keen on moving to Turkey, thus giving the Premier League side a big advantage.
The outlet adds that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have already made contact over a deal for the goalkeeper and could launch an offer next month.
