One of the great clutch plays in Duke history
Duke and Clemson have had some amazing moments over the years. Last year, for instance, Jared McCain had three steals down the stretch to help Duke beat the Tigers - and needed every bit of it.
Duke has usually been the more highly regarded team, but Clemson tends to give Duke tough, gritty games. It seems like it’s been this way forever.
In that one during the Mike Krzyzewski era, Duke was up 66-61 after Gerald Henderson was at the free throw line with 12:7. to go.
Clemson got the ball in and got an easy layup on the right side of the line with 5.0 left on the clock.
When Duke tried to in-bounds however, it somehow ended up in the hands of an open Tiger three point shooter and just like that, the game was tied.
However, when Duke brought the ball in, they got it to Jon Scheyer with 4.4 left on the clock. McClure cut to the basket and called for the ball and Scheyer delivered. McClure got the buzzer beater to help Duke knock off the Tigers, 6u8-66.
Since leafing Duke, McClure has become an NBA assistant coach. Most recently, McClure was an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2019-23.
