As part of his plan to spread Christmas cheer and drum up support for the record, Tom and his band delivered an extra special unannounced performance in the middle of the London train station leaving passengers gobsmacked.
The Higher hitmaker brought the station to a standstill as travellers risked missing their trains as they flocked to catch a glimpse of the star in action.
The Brit nominee performed his festive hit as well as his 2021 hit single, Little Bit Of Love, much to the delight of unsuspecting members of the public.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun after his performance, Tom admitted he wanted to create a Christmas track that was a “modern classic” with the hopes of it retaining longevity in years to come.
Tom told us: “You never know what song is going to have longevity. I just knew I wanted to be very truthful to me.
“And I said, right, let’s go in a studio and I want to create something that I love.
“I decided I wanted to make something like a modern classic and feel like I’ve done that.
“With the reaction I’ve got, people really like it.
“People have said it feels like a classic and it feels like a modern one, which is amazing to hear.
“So I’m hoping that it’s one of these Christmas songs that lasts a long time.”
Tom has already made his hopes of gaining the Christmas number one quite clear after tattooing “Christmas No. 1 2024 is…” on his leg.
With the official result set to be unveiled later today, Tom admitted he is giving himself two shots at the festive honour as a result of the next chart count falling just two days after Christmas Day.
Speaking of how he will complete the tat, the singer said: “We’ve got two shots at the title. So I’m leaving this blank for now because whatever happens, happens.
The singer dazzled the crowds with his performance[/caption] Commuters risked missing their trains to grab a glimpse of the star[/caption]“Then the week after is where I’ll fill it in.
“But if it’s, for example, Wham!, then I will stick to my word and I’ll get George Michael on my thigh.
“But if it’s me, I’m just going to get me. Not a picture of myself, just the word me.”
Tom continued: “I really believe that whatever happens tomorrow or whatever happens next week, I really believe the British public want a new Christmas song.
“And I think this is the song.
“So whether you like my music or not, I think people will start getting behind us and they have been getting behind the song.
“I think it deserves that number one spot at some point. But it took Wham thirty nine years, man.
“So if it’s on my debut, I’ll be running around my hometown, Bedford, like a madman.”
As well as releasing the track as part of an exclusive collaboration with Amazon Music, following in the footsteps of Sam Ryder and pop heavyweight Katy Perry, Tom has also created a limited-edition festive merchandise range of t-shirts, tank tops and hoodies for the site.
A limited-edition vinyl of his track It Can’t Be Christmas is also available to purchase on the site from today.
