If you’re a normal person, you relate to the Grinch on some level. Yes, the holidays are wonderful and if you have kids, they can be extra cozy. But, the holidays are also very, very stressful. Most of us would never do what the Grinch does, and try to cancel the entire holiday, but most of us get where the Grinch is coming from.
So, how can you watch The Grinch this holiday season? And did you know there are actually three versions of The Grinch? Here’s how to stream every one right now.
The original—and the best—this 25-minute animated movie is pretty much the most perfect version of The Grinch ever created. Narrated and performed by Boris Karloff, this version of The Grinch set the standard for all different Grinches to come. Nearly faithfully adapted from the 1957 book of the same name, Dr. Seuss’s words are captured perfectly here.
For people of a certain age, the epic Jim Carrey movie became the Grinch for an entire generation. Directed by Ron Howard, this live-action Grinch changed the game for holiday movies, and for the past two decades has reigned supreme as the most popular Grinch, even if it’s not artistically the best.
Bizarrely, in 2018, even though the world did not ask for it, 2018 gave us a new animated take on The Grinch. This time, the titular moody creature was a little more romantic, and the movie made a bigger deal about the actual family units of the Whos down in Whoville. It’s not a classic, but it’s not half bad and Cumberbatch is totally perfect as the voice of Grinch.
