Rapper Doechii Serves Schoolgirl Chic in Pleated Mini Dress and Mary Jane Pumps for Spotlight Event at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles
Doechii has been embracing a preppy, office-inspired look of late, so her outfit for her “Spotlight” event at the Grammy Museum yesterday only made sense.
The Florida-born rapper — who earned three Grammy nods this year, including Best New Artist — hit the red carpet in a beige layered minidress courtesy of British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker’s fall 2024 collection. Crafted from crisp cotton poplin, the minidress features a sharp collar, poofy short sleeves, a fitted bodice and a short, pleated skirt. She styled the schoolgirl-esque look with a playful tie boasting contrasting, multicolored stripes and an assortment of eye-catching brooches on the chest and at the waist.
As for shoes, Doechii wore Chloe Gosselin’s “Lily” pumps. The “What It Is” artist paired the pointy, Mary Jane-inspired heels with sheer beige knee-high socks that complemented her dress perfectly. Wearing her braids pulled back into a sleek ponytail, she finished off her look with silver hoop earrings and a selection of bejeweled rings on both hands.
The pumps are crafted in sheer mesh and satin, with horizontal stripes in black velvet adorning the vamp. A ruched band embellished with a subtle bow and a skinny, 4.3-inch stiletto heel completes the slip-on style. French designer Chloe Gosselin founded her namesake shoe label in 2014. Her shoes have been worn to the Grammys and Golden Globes by the likes of Taylor Swift, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, and Kate Winslet. Meghan Markle and Nicole Kidman both wore Chloe Gosselin shoes recently. She also custom-made the silver metallic heels Celine Dion wore to the 2019 Met Gala.
Doechii has been working with New York City-based stylist Sam Woolf since the start of 2023. Speaking to Dazed recently, the Austrailian-born stylist discussed the “Boom Bap” rapper’s evolving style.
“During the summer, when she was recording, we were both looking for a way to change things up. Doechii wanted her style to reflect that she’s grown up and out of this playful trashy world,” he explained. “After hearing the project and its direction, we started experimenting with this preppy aesthetic, suiting, tailoring, office siren.”
