AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A temporary bypass bridge opened on eastbound U.S. Highway 290 this week, giving drivers a chance to opt out of the traffic light at William Cannon Drive.
The bridge opened Wednesday, Dec. 18, according to the Texas Department of Public Transportation (TxDOT). It's part of the Oak Hill Parkway project.
Local traffic heading to William Cannon Drive, McCarty Lane, and Old Fredericksburg Road will have one lane along the existing US 290 roadway. Westbound traffic will be unaffected.
The configuration is expected to be in place for about six months, according to TxDOT.
The Oak Hill Parkway is a massive TxDOT project that will create flyovers at US 290 and Highway 71, eliminate traffic lights, and create 14 miles of shared-use paths.
Details about the project can be found online.
