“What I did like about it was that so much of the original script was used and they did it so well that sometimes it even took me by surprise and I was laughing.
“So the whole show was a memory for me of the whole thing: the script, the characters – it was lovely to see them all.
“And everybody was working so well together, very much like we did originally, so I’m going to have a boo now, because I’m so moved.”
Vinnie, who is playing Danny Driscoll for the run in London until January 5, was also joined by his new girlfriend Emma Ford.
Asked about the atmosphere in the room, David said: “It was unbelievable. They got a standing ovation at the end.
“I had to get out. I was embarrassed. How dare they get a standing ovation and I missed out on it.”
On whether it brought back fond memories of filming, he added: “Yeah of course it did, a lot of it, and some of the good characters and actors that are no longer with us as well, so it nearly brought a tear to my eye.”
