Drake Maye’s fellow quarterbacks around the NFL have been universally impressed with the New England Patriots rookie signal-caller.
Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford and C.J. Stroud all offered glowing praise of Maye and his stellar potential. And on Wednesday, Josh Allen’s assessment of Maye fell right in line with his counterparts.
The Buffalo Bills star quarterback threw compliment after compliment in Maye’s direction ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Patriots as he certainly has grabbed Allen’s attention for his on-field play.
“I think their quarterback is going to be really good for a really long time,” Allen told reporters, per MassLive’s Chris Mason. “He’s making some unbelievable plays, extending and from the pocket. I’ve got a lot of respect for him and his game.”
It sure is a good sign that quarterbacks around the league hold Maye in high regard. It should reaffirm to the Patriots that they truly have their franchise quarterback under their roof.
While Maye drew comparisons to Allen due to his play style and build, the rookie has a long way to go to reach Allen’s echelon. Maye is just 2-7 in nine starts as he has completed 68.5% of his passes for 1,898 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The passing stats are actually better than what Allen did as a rookie in 2018 when he completed 52.8% of his passes for 2,074 yards with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 11 starts.
Allen and Maye will have a chance to meet Sunday when the Patriots travel to Upstate New York, giving Maye the opportunity to step up in the spotlight. And perhaps Maye will gain even more respect from the NFL MVP frontrunner.
