Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued an injury update on two first-team stars ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final at Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.
The Red Devils have made good progress since Amorim took charge last month and recently registered a stunning 2-1 comeback win over Manchester City in the Premier League.
Midfielder Mason Mount was substituted early in that game with yet another injury, and the manager has confirmed that he won’t be available for the trip to London.
Noussair Mazraoui also picked up a knock against Pep Guardiola’s side. Amorim said that the Moroccan will be assessed ahead of the League Cup encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He told Manutd.com: ”Mason Mount is not available. He has an injury. Nous – we will see today. The rest of the squad are ready to play the game.
“We have to assess all the players and try not to get a lot of injuries. If we do that, we’ll be stronger in these kind of moments.”
United have had a mixed run of results under Amorim, but there have been plenty of positives. The dramatic late derby win should instil plenty of confidence within the current group of players.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were dropped against City for tactical reasons, and it is unclear whether the attacking pair will be reintegrated into the matchday squad.
Despite this, United should go into tomorrow’s cup tie with a positive mindset. They are improving attacking-wise and could relish the challenge at Tottenham.
Spurs secured a 3-0 league win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford earlier this season. However, the game was dictated by an unfortunate red card for Bruno Fernandes, which was rescinded on appeal.
