Lawmakers are considering killing a stopgap bill that would fund the federal government through mid-March — and avert a holiday shutdown — after an Elon Musk X post sent "shockwaves" through Capitol Hill.
Chad Pergram, senior congressional correspondent for Fox News, reported on air that lawmakers may try to "pull this interim spending bill off the floor." Instead, they may go with a "clean bill" — though he noted it wasn't immediately clear what that entails.
"Here's what happened — a post on X by Elon Musk sent shockwaves through the Capitol," said Pergrum. "House Republicans were trying to see if they have enough votes to pass the spending bill in the next hour or two."
That's when Musk threatened any GOP lawmaker who voted for the bill.

"Any member of the House or Senate who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out in 2 years," he posted.
The post sent lawmakers scrambling, noted Pergram.
The threat didn't go over well with at least one leading GOP lawmaker, who told Fox News Musk is "not helping," said Pergram. The lawmaker's name was not shared.
That same lawmaker added, "Musk has bigger fish to fry than picking a fight with House Republicans."
Another source told Pergram the bill is now "bleeding support" from Republicans.
