(WJET/WFXP) — A tire company that sells winter tires has issued a recall for more than 540,000 of its snow tires, which do not comply with North American standards due to lack of proper traction on snow.
Prinx Chengshan Tire North America (PCTNA) issued the recall, affecting over 100 sizes of both Fortune Tormenta and Prinx HiCountry tires with three-peak mountain snowflake symbols on the sidewalls.
According to the recall, the tires were produced between August 24, 2020, and December 7, 2024. These replacement tires were marketed as snow tires and passed the European standard, which permits them to be designated as snow tires in Europe.
However, the North American and European standards do not correlate with each other. Several sample sizes were tested using the North American standard, which failed.
PCTNA is still working on a remedy for the recall and will submit an amended recall report when a remedy is developed. Initial notification letters will be sent to owners no later than February 1, 2025.
Owners may contact PCTNA customer service at 1-310-205-8355 x 109. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
