Tottenham will have to pay a release clause if they want to sign 27-year-old centre-back, Omar Alderete, from Getafe in January.
Over the past week, a number of outlets have reported that Tottenham are plotting a move for Getafe centre-back Omar Alderete as the Lilywhites aim to reinforce their defence in January.
The Paraguay international has been extremely consistent for both club and country over recent years, with Ange Postecoglou said to be a fan of the player.
In fact, some sources have even claimed over recent days that the Australian is the one pushing for Spurs to sign the 27-year-old, having personally asked the club’s hierarchy to bring him through the door next month.
Sport have now backed up Tottenham’s interest in Alderete, claiming that the centre-back is in the ‘peak moment’ of his career and this has drawn the interest of several sides, including Spurs.
The outlet adds that the Paraguay international is also on the radars of Atletico Madrid, with Diego Simeone wanting to bolster his defence in January.
However, it is explained that Getafe will stand firm in January and will insist that any interested club meet the centre-back’s €16m (£13.2m) release clause.
Tottenham already have four good options at centre-back, which is why the club will likely enter the market for a backup rather than a potential starter.
Postecoglou might prefer to spend the majority of his budget on a midfielder and a winger – two positions where he arguably needs starters.
The option of signing an experienced defender like Alderete for just £13m would thus be an extremely tempting option for the Premier League side.
