The U.S. State Department has expressed optimism regarding the ongoing ceasefire negotiations in Gaza. These talks aim to halt the conflict and secure the release of Israeli hostages.
Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, shared his hopes for the success of the negotiations on Monday. However, he refrained from providing specific details about the progress made in these discussions.
He described the negotiations as a “bridge” between the two parties involved in the conflict. Miller expressed hope that these efforts would resolve differences, lead to the cessation of hostilities, and ensure the complete release of hostages.
Meanwhile, Israel is preparing for the security control of Gaza following what it describes as the “defeat of Hamas.”
On Tuesday, December 17, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced that Israel would assume full security control of Gaza after Hamas is defeated.
He stated that the Israeli military would establish security control in Gaza through a military government after Hamas’s downfall.
According to The Times of Israel, the Defense Minister mentioned: “Once we defeat Hamas’s military power and ruling authority in Gaza, Israel will fully control Gaza’s security, just as it does in Judea and Samaria.”
Since the outbreak of the bloody conflict between Hamas and Israel in October 2023, approximately 45,000 Palestinians have lost their lives. The majority of Gaza’s areas have been reduced to uninhabitable ruins.
The ongoing ceasefire negotiations and Israel’s plans for post-conflict control reflect the complex and dire situation in Gaza. While there is hope for a resolution and an end to hostilities, the devastating impact of the war underscores the urgent need for a sustainable and peaceful solution to the crisis.
