ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- Stone Bridge Apartments residents Stacy Jules and Christina Simon say they are overwhelmed and stressed after their units were recently flooded with sewage water.
Details were provided by the onsite team concerning the occurrence and remedy of the issue that occurred:
- On Thursday, Dec. 12, maintenance noticed one of the main drain caps was leaking water, so he removed it to release any pressure from the lines. He then noticed it was backing up out of the main drain cap. A commercial drain cleaner was used and the line was run for more than three hours to ensure the line was clear. They also removed debris which reportedly fixed the issue.
- On Sunday, Dec. 15, management received a call concerning flooding in one of the units. It was determined that the main line was the cause.
Jules, a longtime resident of the apartment complex, said she was told that when people in units upstairs put something in the drainage, it backs up in the lower-level apartments.
“Mines and the lady that's across is the worst but it comes to me because I'm way at the end,” said Jules said of the water.
“Something has to be done because this could not be fixed because it keeps happening. The plumbing is really bad," she said.
"This is not good because we should not be having to go through this, you know? I mean, I can't take it. I'm catching chest pains, my body is hurting and then having to have this mess and then walking into pee and urine and poo stuff that is disgusting. That is gross. I mean, something gots to be done," she continued.
Simon said everything in her apartment was wet from the sewage.
“It's not good. It's disgusting. The whole front, the whole house, the whole apartment is finished. Everything is wet. Even underneath my bed and I have a CPAP machine. I couldn't sleep in my bed. I'm on the sofa. I mean it’s a place to sleep, but it's not where I'm supposed to be sleeping,” Simon said.
“They should have taken care of us when this happened instead of letting my apartment flood. They could have done something," she continued.
Management was on site Sunday to ensure no additional issues were present. The remediation team has blowers still in the units so once they are pulled out management will schedule an inspection to ensure no outstanding issues are present.
Management will schedule a meeting with both residents to discuss any items that may have been damaged during this incident. Currently, the unit-by-unit inspection of the entire property is in process so any items uncovered during this inspection, if any, will be addressed immediately.
