Slated to hit the free-agent market in less than a calendar year, Ranger Suárez is now represented by Boras Corporation, as revealed by the baseball agency in an Instagram story on Monday.
Boras Corp, of course, is the entity founded and headed by mega-agent Scott Boras, who has negotiated several billion dollars worth of baseball contracts, headlined most recently by the 15-year, $765 million (with no deferred money) pact for Juan Soto with the New York Mets last week.
What’s unclear, as of now, is whether Suárez will actually be represented by Boras himself or by another agent with Boras Corp. The representation change doesn’t necessarily mean, either, that Suárez is adamant on hitting free agency. The Phillies have shown interest in an extension, as Destiny Lugardo wrote about following the NLDS, despite his tough second half.
Boras’s general philosophy is to maximize his clients’ deals by testing the free agent market, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility of Suárez and the Phillies striking a deal beforehand. It does set the southpaw up nicely to do quite well in either an extension or free agency, given Boras Corp’s track record.
Suárez was previously represented by Daniel Szew of LA Sports Management.
