When the hope for India was down on Day 4 of Gabba Test, the duo of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja came to step up and steadied India’s innings. India narrowly escaped a follow-on all due to the knocks of the explosive duo. While the late knock by Akash Deep was important, the contributions from KL Rahul (84) and Ravindra Jadeja (77) were most important in India’s comeback.
India was struggling at 74/5 at one point of the game, needing more than 150 runs to go out of the hands of the follow-on. It was KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja only that made up a crucial partnership. The duo shared a 67-run partnership for the 6th wicket.
Meanwhile, in the post-match press conference, Rahul praised Jadeja for his massive knock and for the way he scored runs while being under pressure. He said that the contribution from Jadeja in adding much-needed runs with tail-ender batters and helped India avoid a follow-on.
“He (Ravindra Jadeja) was brilliant today and he has been brilliant for batting down the order for us for many years. That’s what we expect of (Ravindra) Jadeja and he has proved that he can do this and he has done this for so many years. So, really happy that firstly I could stitch a partnership with him,” Rahul said in the press conference after stumps on Day 4.
The star batter also state that Jadeja is a seasoned player and recognised the all-rounder to be a cautious planner, who has a clear strategy to go with each innings. This stunning knock by Jadeja has come after he had been benched for the first two Tests of the ongoing series.
“He is a very experienced guy, played there for so many years, so he understands exactly what he needs to do and how he needs to perform and get runs for the team at that stage. Often, it’s only Jadeja’s bowling that’s spoken about but I think he has been a great performer even with the bat. He has a solid technique. I enjoy batting with him, I enjoy watching him play. Watching him train, practice, he seems to have his game plan pretty simple and sorted. So, really happy that he could come into the team and do the job for us,” Rahul concluded.
KL Rahul led India’s batting lineup with a solid knock of 84 runs off 139 balls. He had struck 8 fours during his knock and displayed flexibility against the strong Australian pace attack. Ravindra Jadeja also came in with a significant knock of 77 runs off 123 balls, including 7 fours and a six.
