RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (PIX11) – Rex Heuermann, the prime suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial killings, has been indicted in a seventh murder, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
The Long Island architect is now being charged in the death of Valerie Mack, court documents showed. The remains of Mack, a sex worker from New Jersey and Philadelphia, were originally discovered in a wooded area of Manorville in 2000.
Her skull, hands and right foot were later found along Ocean Parkway in 2011.
A hair found on Mack consisted of DNA from Asa Ellerup, Heuermann's wife, and his daughter, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney.
Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the additional murder charge during a court hearing on Tuesday. He had previously been charged with the deaths of six women: Megan Waterman, Jessica Taylor, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Lynn Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes and Sandra Costilla.
Mack's skull, hands and right foot were found near Taylor's body, Tierney said.
Investigators were recently working on trying to identify the remains of an Asian man, who was discovered off of Ocean Parkway in 2011. His body was found near both Taylor and Waterman's, prosecutors said.
