This past Saturday (December 14, 2024), over 30 volunteers went out to the new CLIMB trails in Cascade Locks to begin work on the final segment of the trail Peregrination.
Ahead of the Saturday work party, NWTA’s Advocacy Director Andy Jansky and Board member Kent Davis used NWTA’s mini-excavator to rough in the trail’s initial tread.
By Saturday morning, this 0.25-mile segment was ready for hand-finishing by the volunteers coming from Portland, White Salmon, and everywhere in between.
The cold temperatures and moisture that brought the previous day’s snow made for some challenging sections of trail building. Despite this, volunteers were able to tick everything off the to-do list — save the details that will have to wait for more favorable soil conditions.
The Cascade Locks local stewardship team is taking the month of January 2025 off from formal dig days. There are another 0.50 miles of Peregrination to be built, and the next dig day will be on February 8, 2025.
