Nike SB Is Bringing Back Black History Month Sneakers for the First Time in 10 Years
As information and images pertaining to 2025 sneaker releases continue to roll in, a first look at Nike SB’s plans for Black History Month have surfaced on social media.
Although the imagery leaves something to be desired, leaked photos paint a good idea of what the upcoming Nike SB Dunk Low “Black History Month” sneaker will look like. Said to be inspired by African Tourmaline gems, the upcoming sneaker dons a “Tourmaline/Baroque Brown/Monarch” mix which equates to a light green suede upper which is adorned with a number of unique details.
Raised orange piping fills in the borders of the shoe’s panels, and the color extends to the Nike-branded heel tab. Accents of black and yellow fill in portions of the upper, while a pink outsole adds contrast. Embroidered detailing is also featured on the heel. The shoe is finished with thick rope-style laces.
Black History Month sneakers were once an annual occurrence from Nike, but the frequency of releases has tapered off in recent years. For Nike’s skateboarding line specifically, it issued Black History Month-themed styles in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
There’s no word yet if the return of the Nike SB Dunk Low means that other Black History Month sneakers are also on the way next year.
In recent years, Nike has shifted towards community-focused initiatives rather than releasing product. In June 2020, Nike, Converse, Jordan Brand and Michael Jordan combined to commit $140 million over 10 years to invest in the Black education, economic empowerment and social justice.
Nike’s current Black History Month landing page was updated in 2023 and highlights community wellness efforts led by NBA star Kevin Durant, Olympic runner Anna Cockrell, Olympic fencer Daryl Homer, pro hockey player Saroya Tinker and rapper Watts Stix.
As of now, this Nike SB Dunk Low “Black History Month” colorway is set to arrive in February for a retail price of $135.
