Australian star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has stated that he wanted his teammates to laugh and be happy after he secured a fantastic catch and dismissed Shubman Gill on Day 3 of Gabba Test. Along with helping to the early batting collapse in their first inning, Marsh played brilliantly on the field, which included the catch to eliminate Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The Australian team was off to a good start with Marsh taking an easy catch at short mid-wicket on second ever ball of India’s innings. The team was only done celebrating the first wicket, when Marsh shocked everyone as he made a dive at gully and got a superb catch.
Marsh later acknowledged in the post-match conference that he had always been worried when fielding in gully and that the reason of his celebration was to have some fun within teammates who would repeatedly make fun of his agility.
“I think it (the celebration) is just for enjoyment. Trying to provide a little bit of a laugh. The boys are always into me for how slow I move, and how I can’t jump or move on the field. So anytime I can do something like that, I probably didn’t even need to dive to be fair, but I thought it had a bit of a moment, and it is a fun team,” Marsh said.
Marsh made an incredible catch and ran towards Starc in an uncontrolled celebration, which soon got accompanied by the rest of the teammates who patted him as a form of congratulating him.
