Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim praised Erik ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy following the 2-1 Premier League win against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Red Devils had a difficult opening half against the Cityzens where they were regularly caught offside. City went into the break with a handy 1-0 advantage.
United did not look like scoring for most of the second half, but the complexion of the derby changed after a comedy of errors from Matheus Nunes resulting in a penalty.
Amad Diallo was responsible for winning the spotkick which was converted by Bruno Fernandes.
115 seconds later, Diallo turned up with a stunning late winner for United at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking after the win, Amorim was posed with plenty of questions by the media and one of those was focused on Diallo, who was undoubtedly the player of the match.
The Portuguese said that former managers Ten Hag and Van Nistelrooy did a ‘great job’ with him and it is ‘really important’ to continue the progress made.
He told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport): “Erik [Ten Hag] and Ruud [Van Nistelrooy] did a great job with him, we continue that. Really important. All the players fit in my system. If they want to be in it, if they are talented, every player can fit in this system.”
At the start of the campaign, Ten Hag regularly started Diallo on the right wing. One of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho had to compensate with a bench role.
Diallo was eventually dropped to the bench due to inconsistency with his performances, but he was reinstated into the starting XI by interim boss Van Nistelrooy.
The Ivorian impressed under the Dutchman with two goals against PAOK before an assist against Leicester City. He has now become a favourite under Amorim.
Diallo has been brilliant in the Premier League since the last international break with one goal and four assists in five games.
He has played as a regular at right wing-back, but yesterday we saw the best of him from a wide attacking position for United.
The 22-year-old moved to the left wing in the closing stages and it ended up as a tactical masterclass from Amorim.
Diallo won the penalty before grabbing a late and unlikely winner for the Red Devils.
The Atalanta graduate has become undroppable. He is finally showcasing the potential for which United bought him.
