Cub Swanson knows a thing or two about pleasing a crowd.
Following Saturday’s UFC Tampa event, Swanson and Billy Quarantillo both received $50,000 bonuses for a Fight of the Night-winning bout in the co-headliner. The veteran featherweights battled back-and-forth for two rounds until Swanson landed the telling blow in the third to walk out with the victory.
This is the eighth Fight of the Night bonus for Swanson, and the second for Quarantillo.
They weren’t the only fighters to deliver in memorable fashion at Amalie Arena.
The evening’s Performance of the Night bonuses went to Dustin Jacoby and Michael Johnson, who both scored highlight-reel knockouts.
Jacoby and opponent Vitor Petrino had fans booing their slow-paced contest, but Jacoby left the cage to cheers after flattening Petrino with a one-punch knockout in Round 3. It was an important win for Jacoby, who had won just one of his past five fights.
Johnson scored an equally brutal knockout when he caught a charging Ottman Azaitar with a counter punch on the money. It was Johnson’s first knockout in over two years.
Both Jacoby and Johnson also received $50,000 for their finishes.
