Donald Trump's former election attorney Jenna Ellis spoke out on Saturday about recent reports that Donald Trump couldn't find one person who liked Ron DeSantis for the top Pentagon post.
Trump instead nominated Pete Hegseth, but New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said on Friday that Trump’s idea of naming Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a potential backup pick to lead the Department of Defense reportedly fell apart because nobody in his inner circle got behind the idea.
Haberman also said a call from Hegseth persuaded Trump to allow him to make the case for his defense secretary nomination in the media and on Capitol Hill as allegations of public drunkenness and sexual assault piled up – and produced negative headlines that angered the president-elect.

An account on X wrote, "Haberman says that Trump could not find a single person in his orbit that backed Ron DeSantis for Secretary of Defense. According to Haberman Trump's choice was DeSantis or Hegseth and nobody else. After his inner circle said no to DeSantis he stuck with Hegseth."
This post prompted Ellis, who supported DeSantis, to say, "If true, Trump’s orbit is filled with bad actors and terrible advisors."
"I’m a fan of both Hegseth and DeSantis, but Trumpworld really needs to get over their intimidation and feelings of insecurity with RDS," she added.
