Jose Mourinho wants to see one young attacking superstar, who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar, to end up at Real Madrid instead.
Williams has emerged as one of the best wingers in Spanish football, arguably even across world football, over the last two years.
The 22-year-old regularly terrorises defences across La Liga while he has also evolved into one of Spain’s key attackers, playing a starring role in their Euros win back in the summer.
It was reported in the summer that Tottenham showed interest in the winger but decided against doing the deal when they found out that the player’s £50m release clause would have to be paid upfront in one instalment.
Just last week, some sources once again suggested that the Athletic Club Bilbao star is one of the names on the wishlist of the North London club.
Mourinho has now admitted that he is one of the pacy winger’s biggest fans, confessing that he rates him higher than Lamine Yamal.
The former Tottenham head coach is hoping to see the Athletic Club academy graduate end up at the Santiago Bernabeu.
When asked about Williams, Mourinho told (via Diario AS): “Nico is one of a kind. He’s an amazing player. During the Euros, people were talking about Lamine Yamal, who is obviously another incredible talent, but personally, I prefer Nico. He’s a fantastic player. I just can’t imagine a Turkish club signing him. I really hope he ends up in white.”
Willaims is now one of the most sought-after wingers in world football at the moment and one would expect him to make a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs next summer.
Reports have indicated that the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are all keeping tabs on the 22-year-old (The Athletic).
It is difficult to see Spurs getting involved in a bidding war with those clubs and winning the race for the winger, particularly considering that the Lilywhites might not have Champions League football to offer next season.
