‘Doesn’t want to Get out there…’: Australian legend gives Judgement on India’s decision to not Bat in Gabba Test

Australian legendary pacer Glenn McGrath gave his opinion on Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s decision to opt for bowling first in the third Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Brisbane. This decision by Rohit Sharma after the Toss has surprised many cricketers.

However, the Australian pacer great has stated his concern and shared how he is not surprised by Rohit’s decision to field.

“I’m not surprised that Rohit Sharma won the toss and bowled. He doesn’t want to get out there and bat,” McGrath said while speaking on ABC radio.

He further explained the potential consequences of India deciding to bowl first in the Gabba Test, sharing light on the difference in how the media portrays a game with failed batting versus a game with a failed bowling strategy.

“The thing is if you bowl first and it goes pear-shaped that looks really bad in the media whereas if you bat first and it goes poorly it is ‘gutsy decision to bat first,” he said.

Coming to the match, India opted to bowl first and managed to bowl only 13.2 overs, which was followed by heavy rain interrupting the match. Australia managed to score 28 runs without a loss of wicket. Taking in consideration the condition of weather forecast in Brisbane, the chances are high for the third Test to come out without a result.
