Tottenham travel to Southampton in their next Premier League fixture and Paul Merson believes Spurs’ squad quality will see them over the line.

In his press conference, Ange Postecgolou confirmed that none of his injured defenders will be returning for their trip to Southampton.
The Europa League match against Rangers featured Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray as a makeshift centre-back pairing. Postecoglou attempted to provide cover for the defence with Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur positioned in front.
However, both of the senior defensive midfielders are suspended for the next game so Tottenham have to contend with multiple absences all across the pitch.

Despite all of their absences, Paul Merson believes Tottenham have enough quality to triumph against Southampton.
Speaking to Sportskeeda, he said “I was watching the Chelsea game and I predicted them to pull off a comeback against Spurs after half-time. I wasn’t surprised at all by how Spurs blew their lead and ended up losing that game!
“Now that’s a huge problem for Tottenham because they are now slowly becoming a team that is entertaining without getting the results they actually need. Spurs will play exactly like Southampton in this game. But this might suit Ange Postecoglou because they have better players compared to their opponents.
“I expect this game to be very open with both teams having a real go at each other. Spurs could win simply because of the quality they have in their ranks compared to Southampton.”

Tottenham need bravery and conviction to secure the win
In the three days between the Rangers and Southampton match, very little will change for Spurs. They will have no players returning and those who are fit are not going to be magically blessed with rejuvenation, removing their visible fatigue.
However, Southampton have conceded the second most goals in the Premier League and are vulnerable under a press. If Tottenham give everything to the pressing system which has already seen much success, a win could be within their grasp.
If they sit back and allow Southampton to play, they lack the defensive players to see out the match. This is a game where the Tottenham squad can remind themselves of how their hard work can reward them if they stay committed to the cause.
