India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first in the 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar series in Brisbane. This decision left many surprised as it is quite rare for visiting captains to win the toss and elect to bowl first on Australian pitches. Rohit became the first visiting captain since 2016 to take the decision.
However, India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t quite happy with this decision as he had to bowl in the first session when the ball wasn’t swinging that much.
At first, Bumrah bowled over the wicket to Australian left-handed opener Usman Khawaja but soon changed the angle to try and get the outside edge. The pacer targeted the pads as well, but the ball ended up going down the leg side giving an opportunity to Khawaja to score runs.
In the fourth over Indian players even complained about the ball. The umpire checked it and didn’t find any problem with it, so he handed it to Mohammed Siraj. In Bumrah’s very next over he can be seen getting frustrated with the lock of swing on the pitch.
After the fifth ball of the over, he was walking back to his mark and was heard saying on the stump mic, “Nahi ho raha swing, kahin bhi kar (There is no swing no matter where you bowl)”.
In the sixth over, the play was interrupted by rain as the players from both sides hurried back to their respective dugouts. After half an hour, the rain subsided, and the players returned to the field. However, in the 14th over, rain once again delayed the play and it hasn’t resumed since. Australia are 28/0 after 13.2 overs with Khawaja batting on 19 and Nathan McSweeney batting on 4.
