AUSTIN (KXAN) — Wimberley simply couldn't stop Waco La Vega's high-octane offense in a Class 4A Division II semifinal Friday at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
Sophomore quarterback Kourtney Parr and senior tailback Bryson Roland led the Pirates to a 62-35 win over the Texans, and La Vega will play Carthage for the state championship at 11 a.m., Dec. 20 in Arlington at AT&T Stadium. Carthage beat Brock 45-17.
La Vega jumped out to a 21-7 lead after the opening quarter and continued to pour it on, stretching its lead to 35-14 on an 8-yard Parr touchdown run with 3:26 left in the half. Wimberley put together a tremendous end to the half, however, and had it not been for an illegal player downfield penalty, they would have trimmed the lead to a single possession.
With 1:05 left, Wimberley senior quarterback Cody Stoever scored on a 2-yard run, and then Conner Micheal pulled down an interception with 0:35, setting up a potential two-score swing. However, a 54-yard touchdown was called back due to the penalty and the half ended with a 35-21 La Vega lead.

Wimberley scored on a 33-yard pass from Stoever to Ty Thames on a 1-play drive following a great kick return, but the Pirates scored a couple of minutes later to drive the final nail into the Texans' coffin.
Wimberley ended the season 12-3 with a District 13 4A-D2 championship.
