A strange little mustache has taken up residence above Timothée Chalamet’s upper lip, and I regret to inform you that it might be sticking around. The actor debuted his new facial hair several months ago on the set of Josh Safdie’s upcoming Marty Supreme, in which he plays a character loosely based on table-tennis star Marty Reisman. Stranger transformations have taken place for a film portrayal — but according to the Daily Mail, production on the A24 project wrapped a week ago, and the mustache persists.

On Thursday night, Chalamet and his whiskers — which he stroked and referred to as “a little something” — made an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. While discussing how “old” the actor had gotten, Colbert jokingly asked if the 28-year-old would soon be portraying a Musketeer (of mustachioed fame). “The first time I was on here, I hadn’t hit puberty,” Chalamet laughed. “So my voice has changed, and now I’ll probably play The Rock in my next movie.”
I personally preferred Chalamet’s pale Victorian child era, but maybe Kylie Jenner is a fan of the ’stache? At least his New York–based look-alikes agree with me: They all opted to portray Chalamet sans mustache.
