An Indian-origin franchise owner in the Lanka T10 League 2024 has been caught in controversy after he got involved in match-fixing allegations. Prem Thakkur, an Indian national and the co-owner of the Galle Marvels team, got arrested by Sri Lankan sports police on December 12 due to being connected with the match-fixing scandal.
The Lanka T10 League 2024 is currently ongoing at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. However, the allegations of match-fixing have broken the tournament’s reputation. According to a report by PTI, the authorities of Sri Lanka have taken strong action by arresting an individual involved in the league.
Prem Thakkur, the co-owner of the Galle Marvels team in the Lanka T10 League, has been arrested by Sri Lankan Police. This arrest got initiated after complaints came in from multiple players accusing him in attempting to fix matches.
“The owner of the ‘Galle Marvels’ team in the Lanka T10 Super League, was arrested and will be produced before court on Friday,” Police said, as quoted by PTI.

A number of players have accused Prem Thakkar of attempting to involve them in match-fixing. The players who rejected this offer reported this incident to the anti-corruption unit. An investigation was carried out regarding these reports, and Thakkar was arrested. Authorities are now trying to break through the larger network of these match-fixing operators within the league.
Though the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has not released an official statement related to the topic as of now, the tournament director of the Lanka T10 League, Samantha Dodanwela has confirmed that the tournament will proceed as planned.
