A quiet night for the ACC, but Saturday should be a lot of fun.
In Thursday’s ACC Action, Virginia Tech beat NC A&T 95-67 and Virginia took out Bethune-Cookman, 59-41.
Virginia Tech was riding a six-game losing streak but had no problem with the Aggies.
A&T led 3-2 and that was it. After that, the Hokies just pushed the lead further and further out.
Ben Hammond came off the bench and hit 6-6 and 3-3 of his three pointers for 17 points. Former Blue Devil Jaden Schutt finished with six points (2-7, both threes) and four rebounds.
Meanwhile, up the road in Charlottesville, Bethune-Cookman had a tremendous first half, holding the Cavaliers to 18 points - and most of them fairly late.
Blake Buchanan scored Virginia’s first basket at 18:02 and the Cavaliers didn’t hit another until Ishan Sharma hit a three with 7:49 left. That would be fairly astounding in any game, but against Bethune-Cookman? Unreal.
In the end, Virginia played better and finished with a 25-4 run.
Sharma finished with 12 and Elijah Saunders had 15 points and eight rebounds. Buchanan had nine boards and three blocks as well.
Former Blue Devil TJ Power struggled again with no points and missing both shots he took. He’s getting more minutes than he got at Duke - 14.4 to 6.7 - but essentially scoring the same (2.2 to 2.1).
There are no games Friday but on Saturday there are some really good ones, not least of all Louisville visiting Kentucky. We’re not sure about this, but it might be the first time the teams have played when they both had new coaches.
