Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was visibly frustrated with Joshua Zirkzee for constantly losing the ball against Viktoria Plzen last night, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Netherlands international striker lost possession 16 times in the first-half and five times in the second-half, and the Red Devils boss was not the only person having a go at him during the game.
Man United captain Bruno Fernandes was also critical of Zirkzee when he gave the ball away early on and forced the Portuguese to commit a foul.
On several occasions in the first-half, Amorim turned to his coaching staff whenever the summer signing lost the ball, and it is evident that his style of play does not fit the high-intensity approach of the Portuguese.
Zirkzee needs to improve significantly if he wants to establish himself as a key player at Man United, and he risks being sold in the summer if nothing changes about his overall game.
He cannot keep giving the ball away and failing to press constantly as those attitudes could cost him his future at the Old Trafford club.
The Dutchman has already been linked with an exit ahead of the January transfer window after starting nine out of the 22 appearances he has made across all competitions.
He has just three goals so far, and Man United could look to sell him and sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres at the end of the season.
Zirkzee has not done enough to earn the trust of the head coach, and reuniting with the Sweden international could be more appealing to him if the 23-year-old continues playing as he did last night until the end of the season.
Gyokeres has 25 goals in 23 appearances this term and will be a huge upgrade on the current options Man United have in their striking department right now.
