Ewan McGregor’s Daughter Esther Is Embracing Her Resemblance to Another A-Lister With Her New Movie
Nicole Kidman’s latest film, Babygirl, will be released in theaters on Christmas Day, and it’s already generating Oscar buzz for the actress. There’s also another face on the screen who looks a lot like Kidman, but it’s not one of her daughters — it’s Ewan McGregor’s 23-year-old daughter, Esther, whom he shares with ex-wife Eve Mavarkis.
That resemblance was on display when the women posed with each other at a Los Angeles screening on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Kidman wore a gorgeous pink and white floral gown with a black bow accenting her waist. The chic accessory matched Esther’s black lace gown, making them look like the mother and daughter they play onscreen. Their baby-blonde locks and blue eyes mirrored each other as the Oscar winner wrapped her former co-star’s daughter in a warm embrace with her left hand.
Esther will likely be making numerous red carpet appearances this award show season and it’s quite the coming out party for her in Hollywood. A new “it” girl has arrived, but this isn’t her first rodeo. She made her acting debut playing Tetha Grig in her father’s 2022 Disney+ miniseries, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Ewan addressed the dreaded “nepo baby” label during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in June 2022. “I’m sure everybody thinks she got the job because of me, but really she didn’t. She auditioned for the role,” he explained. “You don’t really know with your kids until that moment when I was acting with her, and it felt really normal and natural.”
Esther told Variety in August that pursuing acting has drawn her closer to her father after his very messy affair with now-wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead broke up his marriage to Mavrakis. “A lot of my personal life and things that I’ve kind of gone through with my family, and the dynamic of that, weirdly kind of replicated itself on the screen, just in the opposite way as I was dealing with my mother instead of my father,” she said of her role in Babygirl.
It’s also a full-circle moment for Kidman, who starred opposite Ewan in 2001’s Moulin Rouge. She probably never thought that her co-star’s child would play her on-screen daughter one day. It’s a sweet circle of life in Hollywood.
