Ange Postecoglou has now told the Spurs hierarchy which two positions he is most keen on strengthening in the January window.
While Tottenham have been unlucky with the number of injuries they have had to deal with over the last month, many of them in the same position, it has laid bare the thinness of the squad.
Postecoglou himself admitted after the recent defeat to Chelsea that the squad needs help, with reinforcements required in the upcoming transfer window.
Reports over the last 48 hours have indicated that the Spurs hierarchy plan to back the Australian with the signings he needs to give him the best chance of making this project a success.
According to Football Insider, Postecoglou has now told the club that he wants to bring a new defensive midfielder and a winger through the door when the transfer window reopens.
Summer signings, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert, have not had the expected impact, with the latter being injured since the start of the season.
Spurs are reportedly determined to rectify this and press ahead with reinforcements in those two areas if the right targets become available in January.
Some Spurs fans would have thought that a defender and perhaps a versatile striker would be bigger priorities for Tottenham than a midfielder.
Perhaps, Postecoglou has come to this decision due to Bissouma‘s poor run of form of late, with the Mali international not providing what is needed in possession.
The Australian’s system relies on having midfielders who can turn with the ball when they receive it in tight areas and with their back to goal.
While Rodrigo Bentancur is skilled at that, Spurs appear to struggle to progress the ball through midfield when the Uruguayan is not playing.
