Bill Belichick officially began the next chapter of his football life Thursday afternoon when North Carolina introduced the future Hall of Famer as the program’s next head coach.
The move comes a season after the Atlanta Falcons picked Raheem Morris in favor of Belichick for their head coaching job. After a year away following the end of his 24-year tenure with the New England Patriots, Belichick is bound for the ACC and the college football landscape.
But, what if Belichick gave another go at an NFL comeback?
ESPN’s Seth Wickersham included several new details in a lengthy report Thursday morning, specifically where the 72-year-old may have looked for the 2025 season.
“According to sources with direct knowledge, the group deemed that the Chicago Bears were probably the most attractive job, but that team brass was unlikely to consider Belichick,” Wickersham wrote. “The group expects the same thing that most around the league do: that the Bears will go offense, hoping to give Caleb Williams a chance at a career, probably targeting Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.”
Belichick’s debut season with UNC starts on Aug. 30 against TCU in Chapel Hill. North Carolina searches for a resurgence from the program that last won an ACC title 44 years ago.
