Sony is reportedly pressing pause on building out the Spider-Man universe.
The cinematic universe – which includes projects like Venom and Morbius – is facing criticism amid the launch of Kraven the Hunter, which has a 16% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is projected to have a worse opening weekend than Madame Web.
The Wrap reports that a leading talent agent says Sony has “developed what they want to develop for now” and is instead focusing on the next actual Spider-Man film with Tom Holland under Marvel Studios, set to begin filming in 2025.
“It’s really about the next Spider-Man film,” they said.

Kraven the Hunter arrives December 13, and is targeting a $13 to $15 million at the box office in its opening weekend via Deadline. In comparison, Spider-Man: No Way Home brought in $587.2 million in its weekend box office debut.
Madame Web opened with $17.6 million, which broke records as the worst opening for a Sony Spider-Man film ever and was the first Marvel film since Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot to not open at number one.
Kraven the Hunter stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular villain.
Sony’s Spider-Man universe officially includes six films: Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Morbius, Madame Web, Venom: The Last Dance, and Kraven the Hunter. IGN has only ranked one of those movies above a 5/10. (Venom: Let There Be Carnage got a 7/10, while the others earned either a 4/10 and 5/10 rating.)
